| The role of the Environmental Monitor for the duration of the Channel Deepening Project (the Project) and for two years following its implementation, was a condition of its Governmental approvals. To assist the Environmental Monitor, the Office of the Environmental Monitor (the Office) was established in December 2007. |

| The Office's role during this time is outlined in the Work Plan 2008-12. The Work Plan explains the Office's objectives and functions in relation to providing scrutiny, reports and advice on the Project's environmental performance against the Environmental Management Plan (EMP). |
| Work Program |
| The Office's specific tasks during this time is outlined in the Work Program.The Work Program includes tasks related to critical elements of the Project, ensuring compliance with the EMP and monitoring of all data collected across Port Phillip Bay that may inform environmental performance of the Project. The Work Program is a living document that will be routinely updated during the Project and for two years after its completion. It will be adjusted to reflect issues raised by stakeholders and the community, requests for advice received from regulators and Ministers, any adjustments that may be made to the dredging schedule in accordance with the EMP, and the date of completion of dredging in 2009. |
