Advice

Upon request the Office has access to expert advice from the Independent Expert Group (IEG). The IEG is chaired by Dr Graham Mitchell.

Advice 1: Ripper Draghead Compliance Verification report
In the Office's Work Program for dredging in the Entrance, it committed to obtaining expert advice on whether or not the dragheads used to remove rock from Rip and Nepean Banks in the Entrance were designed and constructed according to the recommendations contained in the Delf 2006 report.

The report prepared by Nick Bray, a specialist in dredging, found that the design of the dragheads was in line with the findings of the Delft report, and that the dragheads were constructed and used accordingly.

Advice 2: Comments on short-chain chlorinated paraffins in the Yarra River mouth sediments
In May 2008, a media release by the Victorian National Parks Association detailed the findings of a report on the presence of paraffins in spot surface sediment samples near the junction of the Yarra and Maribyrnong Rivers.

The Office sought expert advice from the Independent Expert Group on the paraffins.

Dr Graeme Bately, a specialist in contaminants, prepared comments on the findings of the report. To view Dr Batley's advice click
