Little Penguins foraging trips - winter 2008 |
| Research shows that during winter Phillip Island’s Little Penguins spend time in Port Phillip Bay looking for food such as anchovies. In winter 2008, the research team at Phillip Island Nature Parks fitted small satellite tracking devices to the backs of 54 Little Penguins to learn more about the birds’ foraging behaviour and range. The results showed nearly 60 per cent of the tagged penguins travelled into the Bay, with some birds remaining in the Bay for many days. The images below are courtesy of the Department of Sustainability and Environment's Arthur Rylah Institute and show the foraging movements of two penguins. |
